Tooth Extractions

Safe and Gentle Tooth Extractions
Tooth extraction is a common dental procedure where a tooth is removed from its socket in the jawbone. It may be necessary due to severe decay, infection, gum disease, or crowding. In some cases, teeth are extracted to make space for orthodontic treatment or if they are impacted (like wisdom teeth). Though the idea of extraction may sound uncomfortable, it is a quick and safe process done under local anesthesia to ensure minimal discomfort.

When Is Extraction Needed?
A dentist may recommend extraction if a tooth is too damaged to be repaired by a filling or crown, if there’s an advanced infection, or if a tooth is causing problems with surrounding teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth—those that don’t fully erupt—are also often removed to prevent pain, infection, or misalignment. Before the procedure, X-rays are taken to assess the condition of the tooth and surrounding bone.

Recovery and Aftercare
After the extraction, it’s important to follow post-care instructions to promote healing and avoid complications. This includes resting, avoiding hard or hot foods, and keeping the area clean. In most cases, healing happens within a few days. If needed, the extracted tooth can later be replaced with options like dental implants, bridges, or dentures. Tooth extractions are a safe way to protect your overall oral health and prevent further dental issues when a tooth can no longer be saved.
